The Gulf and South Atlantic Fisheries Foundation, Inc., with its reputation for delivering objective and high-quality research, has gained a high level of credibility within the industry, academic institutions, government agencies, conservation groups, and the general public. Since its incorporation in 1977, the Foundation has administered more than 700 research and outreach projects for the commercial harvesting and seafood industries.
The majority of Foundation funding for research projects is received from the Department of Commerce/NOAA/NMFS through a competitive process. These projects include shrimp trawl bycatch reduction device (BRD) development and testing, utilization of fishery observers and studying the ethnography of coastal fishing communities. Our projects involve direct assistance and participation from Industry.
