GULF SEAFOOD MARKETING COALITION APPROVES THIRD YEAR OF MARKETING INITIATIVES
Tampa, Florida - The Gulf Seafood Marketing Coalition held a meeting on November 13-14, 2013 in New Orleans, LA. The meeting was well attended and had a full agenda. The three contracted marketing agencies, Edelman, The Food Group, and Zehnder, presented the results of marketing initiatives completed over the past year. The Coalition saw many successes over the last year, including the launch of a revamped website, development of a Gulf seafood “Find It” mobile application for IPhone and Android platforms, completion of several successful retail partnerships, and fostering relationships with national media in support of Gulf seafood. In addition to receiving updates from the agencies, representatives from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Audubon Nature Institute presented information on plans to certify Louisiana seafood and an update on the G.U.L.F. initiative. The Coalition also received an update on the Gulf Seafood Trace and Gulf FINFO programs from Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission staff.
The Year III Strategic Plan was adopted by the Coalition. The Coalition received recommendations for Year III marketing initiatives from the three agencies and the Coalition had a long discussion on how to prioritize the use of the Year III funds. The Coalition chose to invest the funds in several categories: on-going media relations and crisis communication, matte release production, website and mobile app maintenance, expansion of social media presence, creation of additional creative content to improve the quality and quantity of content available on the website and social media, and to continue retail partnerships, specifically for the foodservice industry. Foundation Seafood Marketing Director Joanne McNeely said, “The seafood community in our five Gulf States have worked together to help consumers, chefs, restaurants, and retailers enjoy Gulf Coast seafood. We look forward to working with the agencies in the 2014 to keep helping everyone taste delicious seafood from the Gulf of Mexico. Since we are in year three of a four year contract with GSMFC, a major portion of our time will be spent working with organizations and companies that want to help fund this successful program.
