The Gulf & South Atlantic Fisheries Foundation, Inc. is a private, regional nonprofit research and development organization incorporated in 1976. The general membership and Board of Trustees represents a wide spectrum of the commercial fishing industry from coastal states stretching from Texas to Virginia. Through the Foundation, the commercial seafood and fishing industry can collectively identify industry needs, and address those needs through appropriate research and other activities. With a reputation for honesty, transparency and professionalism the Foundation has administered over 700 grants. In general, the Foundation’s purpose is to:
- Provide a nonpolitical, nonpartisan, industry-wide organization interested in the commercial development of the fisheries of the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico;
- Plan industry research and development needs, secure and administer appropriate financing to address those needs, and disseminate results and conclusions, and;
- Work in cooperation with public officials and public organizations, and with private citizens and private organizations, at the national, state, and local level to stimulate and encourage the development of the programs in furtherance of the corporation’s above-stated purposes.
